Very disappointed. Took our mom there for her 90th birthday. Very, very noisy. Couldn't understand the waiter when he explained the specials. Thought he was a bit uppity especially when several pasta dishes were ordered for dinner. We asked for some parmigiana cheese for the tomato appetizer and were charged 7 dollars for 4 tiny pieces of cheese. Food was okay, not happy with the table especially since we made reservations over a month ago to celebrate a major milestone. One of our party was practically in the path of the waiters and had to keep moving his chair. Probably would not return..............

Been here many times, and the food has never been anything less then excellent. The only reason I can't give it five stars is because they just don't get the concept of honoring a reservation time. Over the past four years, I would conservatively estimate a wait of at least 30 minutes past the reservation. If the food weren't so good, probably wouldn't go back. They really need to learn about that thing called scheduling!

Trattoria Romana is the best restaurant in Boca Raton, FL! I have dined there over 100 times and it has been perfect every time. Enjoy!

I ate here last night with my mom and dad (in their 80's) and my sister. We had given my parents a gift certificate here as a special treat, and they wanted us to share the experience. They have never eaten here although they've lived in the area for 20 plus years. I've eaten here with my friends before, I know it as a special place, and wanted my folks to have the experience. The food was good. I am not saying great because I ordered the Dover Sole Oreganatto (a special) and it was mediocre at best. I was really disappointed. This is one of my favorite dishes; I have eaten it all over the world. My parents and my sister all really enjoyed their entrees...the veal chop milanese and the pompano. The bruchetta and assorted breads served at the beginning of the meal are fresh and delicious. The ceasar salad was good but not inspired; the beet salad was delicious. Now we come to the attitude. I was actually embarrassed, being in effect the hostess for this dinner, and this being my parents first experience here. Walking in the door, we were first subjected to the snotty, dismissive hostess who greeted us. She actually looked annoyed that we were there! Incredible! Ambiance is important to any restaurant, and attitude is part of ambiance. We were first seated at a table which was in the "end" zone...with crowds of waitstaff and diners squeezing past our table. We requested a second table, and were seated in a somewhat better location. Our table was not level, and a waiter helped with the "matchbook" trick. Our waiter was great. He knew the specials and the menu and made suggestions. He was friendly and attentive. He almost made up for the icy reception we got when we walked in the door. I read the review here in which the reviewer mentions a phone call where he is admonished for multitasking while making a reservation. It amazes me that he tolerated that nasty 'tude...maybe their hospitality would improve if more diners simply refused to put up with that crap. Its not amusing or colorful, its simply rude and dumb. Pay for abuse? I don't think so. There are so many alternatives in the area where you can get great authentic Italian food and be treated well.

Excellent food, attentive staff, outstanding wine-list, but expect to pay for it. Walk-in's in the winter seem to be seated outside on the patio with children and by the noisy street. Inside is also pretty loud, but more comfortable. We've eaten here twice and were seated quickly, once inside with reservations, once outside without, but both times were before the 7pm dinner rush. We will be back. If it were on the beach or the inter-coastal it would be a 5-star.

It's Ok if you don't mind a VERY noisy front portion of the restaurant (I mean YELLING at one another) or get shafted in the back room/den where grandpa fester and his grand daughter are seated. Needless to say, we sat in the back for a more intimate atmosphere and by intimate I mean people smashing chairs to get by you. Anyway, the food was good, ohhh be weary of the 6$ for a couple of shaves of parmesan cheese. It was something different, nice night near the ocean anyway. Probably good for an awkward first date where you don't have a lot to talk about and can't get a word out without shouting. I

Extremely diverse menu. Always order from the specials board. You can't pick a bad dish. Enjoy the ride...and wine, and bruschetta, and bread, and pasta, and fish, and steaks, and more.

One of the best italian restaurant in entire South Florida. Try their Osso Bucco or Giant Meatball. The freaking food is five star. Sothern Italian cooking at its best. If you like Patsy's in New York this is the place for you. Owners and staff are 5 star. Friendly and open.

The only negative that I see other people have encountered here is that everyone, mainly the old lady at the front, have bad attitudes and are very rude to you if you aren't a regular there. Other than that this place serves up authentic Italian food as well as the ambience. The food was absolutely amazing from the Bruschetta to the Mussels pesto basil sauce, to the chilean sea bass in white wine sauce and even onto the clams in white wine sauce with linguine! The wine list here is very extensive and it has a very legitimate bar as well. I highly recommend this place to people looking for a nice, romantic night out with their significant other and are looking for authentic Italian food.

Beautiful atmosphere. Great service. Wonderful food. Very pricy. This is a perfect place to go on those one-year special occasions, once or twice a month? Not a chance. Unless of course you have money to burn. Definitely worth going to though. It's in a pretty location, very nice outdoor seating, not too loud or crowded. The waiters seem to be very knowledgeable about the menu items and you don't have to ever wait very long for your food. All in all, this place is great to go. Once a year.

This is Italian. As a neighbor for many years, this was my "go to" for all special occasions. Well, it was just my birthday, so the stage was set for two. A rustic, bustling authentic as it gets interior has just been updated with a separate, and impressive, brick barrel ceiling bar area. A long, wooden gathering table welcomes groups big and small while you wait to be whisked past the sumptious velvet drapes into the dining room. It makes you want to try all the beautiful Italian Super Tuscans but since it is a celebration, Champagne was my order. The service is impeccable. The antipasto is as good as any in Italy. Brushetta on the table is unmistakebly perfecto. Fresh made pastas are superb as is any meat, or fish dish. The chefs are always kind to customize my liking. The fish is served with fresh steamed vegetables and fine mashed potatoes. Hope that Dover Sole is available; if not the snapper will always suffice! For large groups, there are private rooms to hold your friends comfortably, just right for my partying bunch. All the homemade desserts are divine. The pastry chef will never disappoint. Small biscotti round in a swirl, are a sweet finale to your hot bevvy. After all these years, it is always a pleasure to be able to dine at Trattoria Romana.

For foodie's it's hard to find a 4 or 5 star restaurant in Florida - and this is one of them. Most waiters have worked there for 15-18 years - and they all have European service and flare. Also, it's not your typical chain "cafeteria" style restaurant with open, noisy spaces. Yes, most times it busy, but even with many people, there's a separate bar area, outdoor dining, and many small dining areas. The food - is simply spectacular and consistent. This is a place to experiment with traditional and slightly modified and sometimes even better Italian dishes. There is no bakery chef, but for those that have been to Italia, that's no reason to avoid the beyond amazing limoncello pie.

This is the best Italian in Boca and theres a reason its been here as long as it has....consistency. The food is always superb. Ive been coming here since it opened, back in who-knows-when and have had MAYBE 2-3 sub par meals. Every other time...OUTSTANDING! The service is impeccable and the decor charming. I refuse to eat Veal Parm anywhere else because nowhere comes close to "Trat". The Veal Chop Romana, Swordfish Piccata, Langostines, Soft Shell Crabs.....the list goes on and on. If I could give it more than 5*'s I would.

Yes, Trattoria Romana is Italian through and through, from the decor, to the food and the attitude. It's all there to make you forget your still in Florida. The restaurant came highly recommended by a few in our large group. A reservation is highly recommended. When making ours, I paused in giving the details of our party to the hostess who told me "you called me for a reason, don't multi task with me, I don't have the time." I love it when a restaurant goes for complete authenticity. You can't replicate the Italian NY attitude...that just come naturally. The same crotchety women greeted us at the door, and after a few minutes we were seated. The front entrance brings you into a wonderfully warm and comfortable bar. Bricked walls and domed ceilings, warm colors and soft lights makes you want to stay awhile. The three sided bar is surrounded by numerous stools. There are several rooms in the restaurant and we were seated in the back, which is much quieter compared to the low roar in the main dinning room. Our waiter for the evening had a great start, by taking, literally, three minutes to ramble off all 15 specials. By the time he was finished I thought that was the menu...this guy is good. The specials all sounded wonderful and he let us know almost everything can be made any way you like. I stuck with the menu though, ordering mussels and pasta Bolognese. The mussels were delicious, sitting in a steaming white wine, tomato broth and piled high. A great start to the meal. A Bolognese is a true test of any Italian kitchen and this one did not disappoint. Very traditional and not too rich. Half way through the dinner the server was in the weeds and constantly wiping his forehead at the table. Everyone else at our table really enjoyed dinner as well. They have a large patio along with private rooms for large parties. The wine list is quite extensive as well. Trattoria Romana serves up delicious homemade Italian cuisine on the daily menu, which is complimented by standout specials. If you can put up with the attitude that they serve up as well, then you'll enjoy this one.

Although the food was good once we were seated and it arrived at our table, the attitude of the staff, including the hostess and our waiter was horrible. Not only did we have to wait 40 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night (our reservation was for 8:30PM and we were seated at 9:10PM), but when we periodically respectfully inquired about our wait, we were barked at. This happened more than once. Once seated we chose not to have any additional cocktails. This of course sent the waiter into a tailspin as he was no doubt counting on a large tip from the table. I can go on, but at the end of it all, my party of four won't go back to this establishment even though the food was good. Are they kidding, they are not the only good restaurant in Boca!!!! PS... It was very loud!!!

Wow. We walked past this place while we were in town for a business sales meeting. We were drawn in by the outdoor tables, and we thought we'd just stop for a drink. Our waitress, Christina, was OUTSTANDING. Gave us a great overview of the place, brought us complimentary bread, etc to go with our cocktails, while we considered if we wanted to stay and have dinner. She was the reason we stayed. The food was fantastic. We mostly did appetizers and salads. The list of "specials" is as long as the regular menu. I think everything we ordered was off the special list, except the caesar salad, which was great. We had the crab cakes, which were OK. Crab cakes are hard to compete with from the Baltimore area. Shrimp saltamboca (sp?) was great, broccoli rabe appetizer, salad insalata. Drinks were reasonable and generous. To top it off, she brought us a few anise cookies. We passed on dessert as we were full. Total with tax was $180 for 4 people. Very good restaurant. Would definitely go back again.

Hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in Boca. The atmosphere is fun, the waiters are knowledgeable and the location is great. But lets get to the food. My favorite dish here is the mussels in the white bouillabaisse. These are by far the biggest, most tender and delicious mussels I have had anywhere. Other great dishes I have enjoyed include the lobster ravioli (which comes with half a lobster tail on top of the pasta), eggplant parm, meatball appetizer, and caesar salad. The food is always consistent, full of flavor and the portion sizes are just right. Drinks are good, with a nice selection of wines. They also serve a nice selection of breads and bruschetta style tomatos and hard bread/chip at the beginning of the meal instead of your traditional bread and butter. Well done!!!

Food is fantastic. They have great ingredients that are fresh and many of them sourced in Italy. Staff is friendly and accommodating. We ordered the seafood dish and it was excellent. They ran out of the angry crab special that we wanted but were still very happy. We love the Italian woman that greets us walking in.

Great Atmosphere, great meal. The charm and ambiance of this restaurant is very inviting as you enter the cool bar scene. The wines by the glass were expensive, my girlfriend choosing the Amarone. At $17 a glass, our bar tab was $30 for two drinks. The food and service was excellent. I had the veal parm, which was as good as any I've ever eaten. They serve it pounded thin and on the bone, which seems to elevate it to a higher class. My girlfriend had the cheese ravioli, adding sweet Italian sausage. It was very good as well. We shared a huge portion of strawberry cheesecake for dessert. It wasn't my favorite rendition, but had tons of fresh strawberries. Overall, it was a little on the expensive side, but a very nice place for a special evening, a solid four stars.

BEWARE of undisclosed SPECIALS prices. The food is ok, no complaints, and most people in Boca can afford the prices. But what is deceptive is that the printed menu prices of $25 - $38 per pasta or entree. However I find it extremely unethical, sneaky and misleading to tell folks to order the specials, and don't tell them the prices are 50- 100% higher then menu prices. The specials we ordered were $50 to $60 per plate, $50 for two small soft shell crabs, $60 for langoustines (large shrimp), $59 for Dover Sole. What makes it more unethical is that the server does not provide the table with menus, unless you demand them. They recite 20 or 30 great sounding specials then tell you they can make anything you want. The restaurant knows that most people will not want to look cheap by asking the prices of the specials so they use this to take advantage of their patrons. I think it's inescusable. If you want to order a $60 entree, that's fine, but you should know in advance. Shame on Trattoria Romana.

I tried Romana for the second time- First time was a while ago, and it wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable- I figured I would give it another try- I went on a date and we opted to give up our table reservations and dine at the bar- The bartender, Joey, was very friendly, very familiar with the dishes, and was willing to change some of the dishes to our specifications- I ordered a special- Langoustines with linguini in a Scampi type sauce-it not only was delicious but plentiful- the linguini was al dente and the sauce was light and perfectly salted- The langoustines were sweet, tender, and tasted very fresh--- My date also selected pasta and she was equally satisfied with her dish- Overall it was a great dining experience and the atmosphere was lively but not too noisy- I will be back! Amazing food, great service (thanks, Pablo), and a really nice atmosphere. It's expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. I've read several negatives here regarding the hostess but we didn't deal with her so maybe we just got lucky. It was a party of 13 and the dinner was paced perfectly, both for the 3 children and the adults. Everyone loved their meals and the burata mozzarella was delicious. As we were leaving, we overheard a couple complaining about a 2.5 hour dinner for 2 which is outrageous. Hopefully that is an exception. Any restaurant capable of giving us the delicious, perfectly served meal we received should be able to replicate this for everyone. If they do, they'll be in business forever.

If you can put up with the crappy attitude, eat here because the food is awesome. The waitstaff is great, knowledgeable and professional. The unkind lady at the front and her minions, not so much! Food is a 5, bad attitude is a 2. The fish is fabulous, no matter what it is...always fresh. The pasta delicious. Desserts are incredible. The strawberry shortcake and mousse cake are out of this world. It 's very nice when you first sit down and they serve a great bruschetta and pieces of good, real parm. Unfortunately, we had reservations for 8 tonite, but walked out because we could not put up with the tiny table for 4 or 6 they tried to cram us at. Too bad, but we went down the street to Casa d' Angelo, which was good, but not exactlyTrattoria. We'll try again with fewer people next time!

This place is fabulous, its the best restaurant I have been to in Boca. I think the best thing is the ravioli with alfredo sauce. I'm not usually the type to get something like that but man oh man was it good. The sauce is just dreamy and the ravioli was so flavorful. The penne vodka is also great. I got swordfish and it was cooked perfectly and extremely fresh. I don't recommend getting the dover sole, I had it once but had to send it back because it was really fishy, so stick to fish caught in Florida and you should be fine.

Came here on a Thursday evening my boyfriend's birthday. I called the day before to make a 7pm reservation and was told the only available times were 6pm or 8pm, so fine, I made an 8pm reservation for 3 people (his friend also joined us). We arrived on time and were made to wait 20 minutes for our table.....not what I would expect considering we had a reservation. When we sat down, the glasses on the table were dirty and we had to request for them to be cleaned, which was done promptly but no apology offered by the busser who we dealt with. The waitress was very nice and we liked her a lot. The food was pretty good. We ordered steak and a chicken dish. The cannoli dessert was decent, nothing spectacular. I was NOT impressed with the sides and felt that they took away from the meal---the mashed potatoes, rice and broccoli were all devoid of flavor and I was shocked that they would serve such poor tasting sides to accompany the meals. I probably would not go back considering that there are other Italian restaurants with quality food that will keep a reservation time or at least apologize if you were left standing around to wait or served dirty glasses. If all you care about is the food, then it might be worth it.

  • Phil S.

Our waiter, Marko, made the evening. Even though we had a 7:00 PM reservation made through Yelp, upon arrival we were told the wait would be 30 minutes at least unless we wanted to sit on the outdoor patio....with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees and dropping. Patio is semi-covered and they have overhead heaters, but it was empty but for two other tables....maybe 8 or so open. After asking being moved from a two-top against the rolled down plastic and far from a heater, we ended up with a nice table under a heater and our waiter. He was attentive without hovering, knew his stuff on the menu/food side of things and kept our wine glasses appropriately filled with just the right amount, not the gigantic pour one often gets from an excellent and expensive bottle you purchase and they seemingly want to rush you through the first and tempt you with another. The food we ordered was prepared well and tasted better. I knew I should have asked the price of a special I ordered, but you get all caught up in the "if I have to ask I can't afford it" mode....so I went with the broiled New Zealand langoustines over pasta......scrumchish! Hmmm, was it worth the $59.99 price tag? Not sure, possibly, but that could have been the wine talking.

Very expensive. Nice service. Very loud and cramped. Maybe I'm spoiled, but had better quality with Group on deals in NYC. $50 Dover Soul, come on. Save your money and get better quality with a selection from Trader Joe's.

This is just great, genuine Italian food. Period. The fiancée and I usually come here on special occasions and we always leave satisfied. We always start with the caprese salad - the soft mozzarella literally melts in your mouth! My favorite dish is the veal parmesan. It's nothing like you'd expect.

We are locals. I am from NY and my wife is from Nj. We know food and we especially know Italian food. This is and has been our favorite Italian restaurant for years. The only negative, and it is one that we like, is that the desserts are nothing special. We like this because after enjoying the appetizers and entrees, we don't feel we have to overstuff ourselves with dessert!

Actually I'm embarrassed to admit I've been to this restaurant a few times. As other reviewers have said the the ambiance is great, food is good, but personally I have found the service a little scary (huge attitude here!). From the hostess to the wait staff people come across as mean and do not seem, to be having fun. I kept thinking each time I returned that their attitude would improve. This past March I flew in to take my mom to dinner to celebrate her birthday. I called and requested a table for two in the main dining room. I have never sat in that main room with my mom. We arrived on time and we're told to wait. We sat at that nice wooden gathering table in the new bar area. After waiting 30 minutes we were taken to a table for two in the back of the main dining room near the bathroom. Waiting, and with a reservation was fine, but a table with more ambiance should have been offered. They then took us to a table near the kitchen in a divided corner. At that point my mom and I just sat down. We ordered wine and then our waiter took our order. He didn't write it down and got it wrong. I had heard that the marinara sauce was delicious so I ordered the only pasta I could find on the menu with marinara sauce, the cheese ravioli. The waiter brought us the wrong ravioli. When I told him I had ordered the cheese ravioli he said: " You pointed to the other one I saw you". I said, "No I pointed to the last entree listed on the menu, the cheese ravioli." He brought us the ravioli we wanted the second time. When he handed me the bill he had added a 14 dollar splitting fee (for the ravioli) to a 126 dollar dinner for two. At that point I called over the manager. The manager was quite nice. He looked at our total bill and immediately removed the splitting fee. The facts are as follows: We called for a reservation and had to wait 30 minutes, the first table was in the back by the bathroom, the second jammed in the back corner near the kitchen, the waiter brought the wrong entree and then argued with me, a bogus 14 dollar splitting fee was added to the $126 bill. Our recommendation, for a fun, fabulous, delicious and uplifting meal go somewhere else!

Delicious food, great ambiance and wonderful wine. My husband and I dined here last night with two friends. I had the Dover sole which was amazing. My husband had the lamb chops, which i tried a bite of and they were delicious. Our friends split the seafood salad (looked great) and one had veal for her entree while the other had yellowtail. We all raved about our meals and the wine. The restaurant was very busy but our server, Daniel, was incredibly attentive and answered all of our questions about the night's specials. All in all a wonderful experience- we look forward to returning.

Top Italian restaurant in south florida!! Every ingredient is fresh, and each dish can be entirely customized to your palate. The personalization does not stop there, let's just say the menu is only limited to your imagination and wants, the ingredients are practically endless. The Italian wine selection is second to none, so if it's your first visit take some time to look through the expansive leather backed wine list. To finish, order the Tiramisu.... It's not one of the best I've had, it is the THE best! I have eaten many tiramisu, it is after all my second favorite desert, but this particular tiramisu takes the cake (no pun intended)!! Bon Appetit

This pace has been a standby in my family for 10+ years. Went there recently to celebrate a very important event and was sadly underwhelmed. Everyone was pleasant, we weren't rushed, but the RATIO of food quality to price was simply not up to standards. Perhaps it's because we've eaten all over the world and were simply non-plused with the meal. EVERYTHING is extremely costly here. And we get that. It's Boca Raton. But there seems to be a lost grasp on reality when it comes to their wine list, cocktails and simple, basic pasta dishes. I don't mind dropping $300+ for a dinner for 2, but one would hope that the ratio I speak of would simply be more in line.

I ate here on a Wednesday night and sat at a high top in the bar area where service was great! It's nice to see a staff that works well as a team to stay attentive. The food was great! My pasta was cooked perfectly! Overall, such a great experience, great food and great service!

Go for the Osso Bucco its awesome! The Bronzino was good but not the best I have ever had. Skip the cannoli so not worth it. Service was excellent but its a bit crowded and loud. Be prepared to pay though. 2 people 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, dessert 2 coffees and 2 glasses of wine $200+ so its pricey. But hey its Boca.

We have lived in Boca for years and have been here many times. The food is excellent. But this just keeps happening. Had a 8:30 reservation. Arrived 15 minutes early, checked in with the hostess and went to bar for drinks. At 9:00 checked back in with the hostess who now franticly looked for our reservation. She located it a few pages back on the computer and you could tell they had made a mistake. She said we'd have the next table in a couple minutes. 30 minutes later still no table, we left and went to Abe and Louie's. It's the local patrons that support your restaurant during the off season.

One of my best Italian meals in South Florida. Trattoria Romana offers so many delicious specials and choices that make choosing very difficult. I ate at Trattoria Romana tonight and had a great time and meal. The waiter, Marco, was very nice and helpful and did a great job explaining all the different specials. To begin they brought us over a plate of bread, breadsticks, mini pizza-like breads, and bruschetta with fresh garden tomatoes. Delicious. For an appetizer, I shared one of the best orders of calamari I have ever had. It is very hard to find calamari that takes less than an hour to chew, and this was the perfect. For my meal I had the cheese ravioli in a tomato and basil sauce. Delicious as well. Everything was fresh and perfect. Didn't get to try dessert but I'm sure it would've been great!

"I am usually not one to be offended by poor service when dining out but Trattoria Romano takes the cake. Now let me ground my review in the fact that I went to one of the top culinary and hospitality colleges in the US and have spent over 15 years working in the restaurant industry. It all started when we arrived - the 75+ year old matriarch of the restaurant sat us in one of the worst tables in the house. Knowing that this is one of the few times we make it out I immediately went up to the front and asked her to reseat us. She asked "why" and I told her that the seating was not comfortable and we were right by the waiters station. She then said "many people sit there and never complain". For a second I thought I was on Kitchen Nightmare and waited for Gordon Ramsay to appear. So she moved us to another table that was hidden all the way in the back of the restaurant. Our server was very nice and straight out of Italy. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job reviewing the 20+ specials which took over 5 minutes to recite. Pretty impressive but why does a restaurant need to have this many specials and force their staff to remember all of that information? After the 5 minute recital was over a family with four young kids was seated right next to us. I am pretty sure the Matriarch was getting us back for complaining. Our food was great and the antipasti bar was amazing. I would definitely go back for the food and our waiter but stay clear of the Matriarch. If you get on her bad side there will definitely be no soup for you." Special features:romantic, neighborhood gem, notable wine list, fit for foodies

One of my favorite restaurants! Beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, wonderful food. Delicious homemade pastas, salads, the best fresh tomato bruschetta I've ever eaten, excellent seafood, osso buco, veal and chicken dishes. I've never had a meal here that is bad. Also a great wine list of wines by the glass. A wonderful special occasion restaurant. A little expensive but worth it.

Obviously this place is fantastic. I don't think it needs another great review, but I can't help myself. We went here to celebrate my brother's engagement and as usual, we were impressed. They have an expansive menu made even more impressive by every waiter's ability to list at least 30+ additional specials by memory table-side. And if you don't want anything on the menu? You can specially order something. They have every fish I can think of. My family loves the bruschetta and breadsticks that come out prior to ordering. Their marinara sauce is out of this world. I always get some type of seafood because it is always on point here. They have amazing roasted vegetables and their veal dishes are delicious as well. My mom only eats chicken and she swears by it at Trattoria Romana-- she says it's the best she's ever eaten...as does my brother-- and they are a tough crowd. For dessert, I have never had a better Tartufo (and it's gluten free!) The rest of my family enjoyed a variety of Tiramisu and some other various cakes. My mom even likes the cookies the restaurant gives you with the check!

Stumbled across this gem in East Boca after not being able to find parking in Mizner Park. The Gods were watching over us tonight! Nothing could prepare us for the culinary masterpieces we were able to partake in! The tortellini with braised short rib was delectable and the sea bass with tomatoes, capers, and black olives was second to none. We also tries the mushroom salad which was heaven along with the pasta fagiole. The service was impeccable. Nicolas was our server and we were impressed with his professionalism, knowledge of the menu, and the way all of the servers worked together. We will absolutely come back and partake in the antipasto. It's is prepared in a bar in front of you and just a sight to see!

Not worth the price. We are not shy about big checks, but this place leaves no lingering desire to return to splurge again. None of my fellow guests raved about the food, my own dish was disappointing. I will say that we shared several appetizers, before our meal, and those were enjoyable. Seafood salad, mussels, mushroom salad and some eggplant dish. My Rigatoni Salciccia was blah. The sausage was OK, the sauce alright. I expected a good deal more zest. The pasta just didn't seem very special and there were huge chunks of onion that I had to pick out and set aside as they seemed out of place. My wife did not enjoy her veal, though she did say that her pasta side was special. She said the veal was tasteless. The thing about her dish is it came with mash potatoes and carrots, huh? Sounds like a diner plate. She had to order a la carte sides to get a decent mix. The place is too crowded and noisy. It takes a contortionist to maneuver around the room and folks are just elbowing their way by you on a regular basis. Our waiter was nice enough, but it felt a bit like he would have liked us to move along so they could turn the table. With drinks and a few bottles of wine, we reached nearly $1k with 4 persons. For this money, I expect a bit more luxurious atmosphere and welcoming, attentive service. No, not a bit. Actually much more.

We made a reservation a week in advance and when arrived the hostess was very friendly but offered us a table outside. It was hot and we didn't ask to be sat outside when we made the reservation. I wouldn't think they would just assume that was ok. We had to wait a few minutes for an inside table, which was right by the door. The ambience was very charming. The service was good as well. However our food was just average and very expensive. There were also about 25 specials told to us verbally, and I couldn't remember any of them. I would suggest a specials menu on paper because I probably would have ordered a special. Instead we all ordered off the regular menu. I had linguine with White clam sauce. It was just average. Nothing special. Good service and atmosphere, but overshadowed by average food and high prices.

T Romana is and seems to remain as my all time favorite Italian restaurant. I just love the atmosphere. The food is always outstanding. The fresh chunks of Parmesan and the Burata is always amazing. My husband loves the warm mushroom salad and I always seem to get the eggplant app. The bread is to die for and the place is packed year round. Thant star for being consistently wonderful.

I found this place when I was exploring some new restaurants on Palmetto Park Rd. Since I love Italian food, I wanted to try it, so I tried to make a reservation for one Friday night, they were absolutely booked, so we ended up going to our usual Casa D"angelo, they weren't as busy as they used to be. On Sunday ( thinking it's Sunday after 9, can't be that busy) we just walked in to Romana around 9:30 pm, they were able to give us a table, but this place is always busy!! But the key is to go there after 9pm... our waiter that night (don't remember the name, but his picture is posted on here) was very good, he helped us picking the very nice Chianti Classico bottle ( it was very nice), we both ordered Oso Bucco dinner, and my guy ordered a side of just simple pasta with butter and minced garlic and roasted garlic. my Oso Bucco was fantastic, and he brought us bunch of minced garlic and also roasted garlic (some people don't know what "minced" garlic is...) I tasted the pasta, it was also fantastic, and our waiter was fantastic as well, he was very attentive and charming, it's usually not just the great food but servers that make dining experience more amazing!! The price here is more reasonable compare to Casa. We had our first amazing dining experience with Romana so we went back the next week, and our waiter this time looked very familiar, I recognized him from Casa!! He was my favorite one at Casa, and now he's here, he is also an amazing waiter and the food was great again ( I ordered Brie covered shrimp over spinach), this place became one of our favorite restaurants, we keep on going back there, we've been going there now once a week at least!! It seems like they took all the business from Casa, but I don't blame them...

With so many good reviews I thought this was going to be a special meal. My husband I and went here for our anniversary last night. We live right over the bridge but never stopped in so it seemed like the perfect time to check it out. It wasn't the perfect time to check it out. The food was good, very good. But really how hard is that in this scenario? This is heavy classic Italian cuisine and generally most things taste nice when they're made from cream, butter and cheese. There were no special favors, just super rich Italian. Nothing wrong with that, but not very interesting either. I think that when eating out good food is pretty easy to find. What I'm usually looking for instead is a dining experience. That can be anything - from a mom and pop shop that's extra welcoming to a super formal place with a team of waiters to reposition your fork for you every time it's put down - just something that makes a place stand out. This place didn't have that. Out table was right next to the front door. I faced the hostess all night and had the choice of looking at her or the wall. The waiter was experienced, good, but very mechanical. There was no "welcome, thanks for coming" from anyone. They have a lot of customers, they put out good food, but it's with a "hey, here you go" attitude. So long story short, if trattoria romana did take out, I would drop by when I wanted old school Italian. Get it and get out. But I don't see myself rushing back to spend another entire evening here.

the GREAT''' tremendous welcoming smile by owner? hostesses etc. waiter was AMAZING and considerate, bus staff attentive food is really outrageous and they will give you time in between courses to order, no rushing you. apps spectacular. crab cake which was only made of crab!!!! to die for. prosciutto the tastiest and the roasted eggplant smoky deliciousness. fruitti e mare and mussels FRESH. prices are high, this is an excellent restaurant. pretty pretty people and a car wash ******* the questionable....hmmmm its hard to complain about an excellent meal in an establishment that I frequent however,,,,, here I go! we are snobs, we are san pellegrino snobs. our first bottle WAS NOT Pellegrino! the bottle came to the table SANS cap. yep, I said it. the bottle was not authentic. the second bottle was because we requested it to be 'cracked; at the table. what more could I say?

Let me just simply state that this place is phenomenal. It's super authentic. Everything is just perfection. Absolutely delicious. The burrata and tomatoes were excellent. The eggplant appetizer was delicious. The baked clams were fresh and full of flavor. I had the short rib tortellini and it was excellent. Highly recommended. Always busy - make a reservation.

I want to give more stars but just cannot because we waited over 30 minutes between appetizer and main dish to be brought out we were with my 90+mom and that is way-too lon On all other points would give it a five star - waiter was great, place is very charming, food was very good - but they just do not have their act together and this is worse because we got there at 5pm! I can only assume the people who ate at 8pm are sleeping over ONE ABSOLUTE MOST - ricotta cheesecake- that was a ten star We will try this restaurant one more time but if the same thing happens - that will be it

I went with my family to this restaurant we were staying at the Waldor Astoria. We made reservations well my mother and law did. When arriving we gave them our name the host was an older gentlemen which then told us we were not on the list we come to find out my mother and law made the reservations at a different spot. So instead of the Host trying to get us a table as soon as possible he gave us a nasty attitude after we asked how long will it take he couldn't even give me a time and wouldn't since they seem to be much more upper class and I guess the way we dressed and looked didn't seem like we fit in I guess. But after a bit of arguing we finally gave up the Host was just a complete jerk. The look of the restaurant was very nice old school Italian looking. I wish I could have eaten the food there I saw some of the plates and it looked amazing! Oh well I would never go anyways just because of there snooty attitude! Wish I can give no stars.

Still my all time favorite restaurant in Palm Beach County! ! Amazing food, great service. I got the loaded stuffed meatball, which was stuffed with mozzarella, peppers, onions and mushrooms and topped with an amazing gravy. Then for main course I got the Dover Sole, which was nice and light and topped with a lemon butter sauce served with swiss chard, mashed potatoes and carrots mmmmm to die for. Def go check this place out if you love good food and are a foodie like me...

Crazy delicious! Total scene! Food was out of this world!!!! We started off with drinks t the bar. Very attentive staff. The atmosphere is so awesome. Beautiful decor! I went with three friends. We all order on the healthy side and they have plenty of great options. The beans were incredible and so were the. Mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, romano salad, asparagus -oh - and strawberry shortcake was AMAZING!! The service was awesome and I'm coming back for sure every time I'm in Fla!!!

We are upscale diners and very disappointed with our experience. After waiting for over an hour for the food and asking the waiter twice what happened we were told that they ran out of the dover sole. The manager came over and was less than accommodating. On of the specials we ordered and did not ask the price..we were charged $ 65 for one of the entrees. Mediocre food, excessive prices and a non accommodating manager is what we got . We will never go back...especially due to the manager making a very poor effort in making a acommodation that would please us after such disastrous service

This spot it on point, kudos to Julio great waiter. Great bartenders Joey from Jersey, Bianca and George. Been there 4 times over the winter when I visit South Florida. Veal chop special with eggplant and cheese, out of this world. Stuffed meatball app to die for. Love sitting at the bar when I am by myself or a nice table when I am with my family. Service is great, food is great and drinks are great. Well done Trattoria Romana. Well worth the price for a great dining experience.

Knock over 2 gas stations before you go, maybe 3 but it's worth every.cent. Not only is the best restaurant in Boca but they wash your car as you eat. If your lucky enough to have the Angry Lobster I promise you will not be mad. Make a reservation and be prepared to bribe the hostess if you want to eat without waiting an hour. If your planning to do anything but go home and sit on your couch after you might as well cancel, you can't help but over eat here because EVERYTHING is great.

  • Paulette S.

I wish I could rate higher. Husband and I took his parents here on their visit to South Florida. Host staff was not welcoming. We asked for our menus because they were not offered to us within the first 15 minutes of taking our seats. We could not have a conversation because the noise level was out of control. There are so many tables crammed into the main restaurant that patrons are on top if one another. The gratuitous bread and bruschetta was delicious, as was my French Martini. My mother in law and I ordered the Pappardelle Costa, it was salty with minimal pappardelle. My father in law had the veal chop that he thought was chewy and bland. He told our waiter who made no apologies nor offered options. We don't mind paying $$$ prices for a great meal. Based on how the food tasted, it won't be worth going back for the poor service and mediocre food.

Good service! I had the Sole which I really enjoyed. It can get really busy and crowded on the week end especially so I recommend making reservations! I've had dinner here several times before and normally order lamb but I know that the crab cakes are very popular. I usually enjoy sitting outside as it can get very noisy inside when it's busy especially with additional people around the bar. You can valet or find parking off the street which is fairly easy.

5er. Top flight across the board. Not an everyday find, has a "genuine" sense about it. Excellent service. I suspect the mozzarella is the real italian buffalo thing, dover sole is to cry for (nothing is good enuf to DIE for, at least for me). Same for salad dressing - I've no idea what all is in it but IT is in it! And the cookies - pass the Sambuco and make sure that ur significant other is nearby cuz ur gunna fall in love. My compliments!

Very solid Italian American restaurant. Came here tonight with the boyfriends parents since they were in town. The place was packed, which was amazing for some Boca restaurants at 10pm. Service was prompt and attentive. I got the lamb chops and artichoke appetizer. My bf and his dad split the veal chop special. His mom got the Cesar salad. The portions are massive. I can't imagine one person eating the veal chop they split. The veal was excellent with a great mushroom sauce. My chops were good, somewhat unseasoned. There are so many things on the menu that everyone can be satisfied. They do not have gluten free pasta or even risotto, so that left me only with the meat options. Family friends of our recommended to not even open the menu because the specials are where it's good. I'm glad we followed their advice. I'll update when I go back and try other things

Order a couple bottles of wine and take in the sights as you eat your semi-overpriced, nondescript meat and/or seafood entrees. First shift of diners hails from the prune farm. Watch for some epic AquaNet hairdos, Jags, and walkers. Next are the execs and their dates/mistresses, showcasing big rocks and plastic surgery jobs that will make your jaw hit the table. This crowd's followed by last shift - singles and arm candy--jacked balding dudes who pull up in their panty droppers and don't open the car door for their horse hair extensioned escorts. I had to tear my eyes away from the valet and bar and remember to feed myself. Finished the night at the bar knocking back a couple French Martinis until the place closed around 10:30 on a Thursday. Toto, I don't think we're in NY anymore. I rated a 2 because the food was below average (save for the cheese plate) but the bartenders were exceptional. The proteins were probably fresh, but I've had better vegetables at my grandma's retirement home, and everything was noticeably under-seasoned and overcooked, including my Sole, my friend's fillet, and every sad piece of seafood in my client's Frutti di Mare. Worth visiting for the drinks and free show, definitely not for eating.

I always feel bad when a formerly fine restaurant starts to deteriorate and this is the case with Trattoria Romano. They used to offer wonderful cheese on the table when you sat down. Now it's just a mass of chopped tomatoes on thick and tasteless bread. The cheapest bottles of wine are $50 and $52. The calamari in the cold seafood appetizer was like rubber. While my husband's sautéed soft shell crabs were excellent, my sea bass livornese was awful (a piece of fish with an enormous thick and unpleasant mound of sauce on top). All this disappointment and a check of $184 plus a $36 tip which my husband insisted on giving. Good bye Trattoria Romano. There are too many other restaurants in Boca to enjoy fine dining.

this is the best restaurant in boca!!! i don't even need to put it into a genre(i.e. italian, asian, mexican, american, etc) this is the best restaurant in boca! my husband and entire family have been going here since they opened. each and every person that works here (our favorite is Pablo) are the best! can't say enough. food is beyond and never disappoints!

Exhaustive menu with some real delicacies for appetizers. Incredible list of specials. I had Bolognese in a great sauce with homemade fettuccini perfectly made. My wife had the snapper special which was excellently prepared. We had the burrata as a side.....to die for. The service could not have been any better.

  • Steph S.

Great food, nice looking restaurant. I had the Vodka Rigatoni topped with a crab cake. I am not always a fan of crab cakes but this was delicious, lots of meat with not much filler. This restaurant has an excellent wine list. I was with a party of 7 and it appeared that everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. Fpr an appetizer, we tried the calamari and it was also excellent. My only complaints are that the tables are excessively close together. If you have a large person sitting behind you, their chair is almost knocking into yours. Also, the noise level got a little high towards the end of the meal when the restaurant was crowded.

This place is simply the best, all around Italian place for miles. My fiance and I eat here at least once a month, it is our favorite local spot. Pricey, but incredibly worth it. We love the giant meatball appetizer, crab cake, strawberry shortcake, and the Dover sole is to die for. The service is impeccable and the wine list is heavenly. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I received a gift certificate to this restaurant for our anniversary. What a treat! The restaurant has a beautiful decor but is crowded. How happy were we to be seated in a small alcove away from the noisy crowd. Our waiter, Tony, was very pleasant and very helpful. We shared several items beginning with an eggplant appetizer with an outstanding marina sauce, that was delicious. Our veal entrée...pounded thin with a marsala sauce was outstanding. We will definitely return to this restaurant but will ask for that quiet table when making our reservation. It is difficult to get a reservation. We were told that it can take up to 5 weeks to get a Saturday night reservation!!!!

This was a horrible experience. The service was so rushed that no one enjoyed their dinner. The main course arrived while everyone was still eating their appetizers . The waiter took the dessert orders so quickly that half of us did not even know that the order was being taken . The food was just okay . The room was so noisy that it was hard to even hear people right across the table. When the manager came over at the end of the meal at our request he only said okay I'm sorry and that was it. This is an overpriced arrogant mediocre place.

Best rigatoni a la vodka that you will ever have!!!! Their pasta Fagole soup is amazing too I get it every time. Great place for Sunday dinner. The only thing is that reservation or not, expect to wait about an hour for your table-- even if you're a local and go there all the time.

Dined here over the weekend and i forgot how good this Italian place was ! On the weekends, it's very busy and loud. We sat in the bar area at a small table and enjoyed the burrata cheese app which was sooo amazing! I ordered the Swordfish picata and hands down was the best piece/flavor of swordfish i've had ! Not too much picata sauce and the mashed potatos were soo yummy ! My bf got the Veal chop and was really good too. Paired with a nice glass of Malbec and the strawberry shortcake dessert was delicious ! A little pricey but the food is quite amazing. Well worth the money spent. If you're not a fan of a loud atmosphere, you may want to go during the week as the weekends is the happening place to be :)

Food is amazing. We go there for the bartenders and the food. The owner/older woman who stands at hostess stand is so beyond rude. Every time we check in, we have to deal with miss puss face, and my husband and I always turn to each other and say 'why do we come back'? And we head to the bar. If she would either smile or just leave, the restaurant would double in profit. But seriously, if you can avoid her or not let her get to you, the food is so delicious.

    (4)
  • Jen K.

We arrived for our reservation on time. The valets were rude, the gals at the check in desk were not nice, and the old woman (I think, the owner) was sooooooo sour faced, I was thinking, "why are we eating here? It's like we're putting everyone out." We waited for 40 minutes to be seated, and I'm convinced that was only because I said I was a blogger for the NY Times Food Section. The food was delicious, but I'm not into rude staff. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. EVER. A note to the restaurant: Meanness travels downhill. You may want to be nicer. The fact that your valets were not even nice, should have been a clue. Don't worry. We'll NEVER return.

$25 for pasta and they use processed store bought mozzarella - NOT FRESH MOZZARELLA. For a super over priced Italian restaurant, they have b***s to servce processed mozzarella - YUCK.

In season, this place is a very poor choice. The small bar area looked ok, but the rest of the place is very crowded, noisy with marginal service. In addition, my food choice was not good. I don't understand the positive reviews, pelegrinos is a much better choice for good Italian food in Boca.

In a town where there's an over abundance of restaurants for the typical retiree crowd and those that may prefer a blander diet, Trattoria Romana holds true to its cuisine and offers some delicious Italian for a very reasonable price. The service is outstanding with the waitstaff paying extensive attention all the way from the bar to your table. Regardless of where you're situated it seems they're always at the beckon. The dishes were delicious and authentic and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. From the cheese to the tomatoes to the protein you could really taste a difference. They're obviously popular and there was a minor wait even with a reservation, but it's definitely worth it. There's definitely some dishes which are popular than others as outlined by the waiter and as we discovered when some were no longer available to order. Overall there's not much you can go wrong with on the menu here.

Made reservations for 8:30 and when we arrived the place was so packed with people it made it uncomfortable. When we arrived the hostess said we were running a little behind and it would be another 20 minutes. I asked the hostess if that was realistic and explained I would leave and go elsewhere, she said no i promise you I will seat you with in that time frame. 20 minutes came and went , we were not seated for another 45 minutes. As I watch the hostess take cash for someone to be seated that did not wait as I was puts this whole place into perspective. Frustrated that we waited so long to be seated we figured the wait would be worth it. I must say with a crowded restaurant you would think that the food was exceptional. I am afraid that was not the case I ordered the swordfish and I sent it back because it was overcooked. I decided I had enough so my wife and I shared the veal special. Disappointed again with the veal, as I could have gone to the local pizza joint and had that type of processed meal it tasted plain and it was not exceptional. If you are going to take reservations then those should take precedence over the walk in customers . I will not go back Trattoria Romana !!!!!!

We are just leaving S. Florida after a 4 night stay in Boca and we ate at Trattoria Romana 3 of the 4 nights we were in town. The bar is great and we ate there on both Wednesday and Saturday nights. On Thursday night we ate on the patio. In total we've eaten at this restaurant at least 6 or 7 times in two years. The overall experience, food, and drink has never been anything less than spectacular. Trust Franco the bar manager with your wine selection and he won't let you down. Also, order any of the specials or anything that sounds good on the menu as we haven't had anything we wouldn't order again.

One of our favorite restaurants in Boca Raton. My wife loves the salads and the angry lobster. The penne vodka is the best I ever had. Service is good but the restaurant is usually very busy. It is a must if you are visiting Boca Raton. i did want to mention that when you make reservations they have the nicest woman, Dena, answer the phones.

We had dinner at the Trattaroria Romans in Boca Raton last night. As usual the food and service were excellant. My wife had the Shrimp Cardinale. There were 4 Under 6 to a lb shrimp that were cooked perfectly. I had the sword fish. It was perfectly cooked as well, and served with fresh carrots and mashed potatoes and swiss chard. Bit pricey, but excellance of the food and service made it worth it. Nicky was our server, and Derick assisted him. Good service can make a meal.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
